Can you believe it’s already March, and the warm weather is still here? Last month, we celebrated the farewell for Terry Mapstone, our former President, and he continues to work hard as our counselor, doing a wonderful job. I think it was a great way to honor Terry for his support of this Lodge.
On February 7, 2026, several of us attended the Sons of Norway Zone 8 Leadership Conference at the Trollheim Lodge in Lakewood, CO. We had multiple speakers discuss a variety of upcoming events: Ski for Light, Barneløpet, Scandinavian Midsummer Festival, changes to the Sons of Norway Financial Advisors, and a wonderful presentation on Camp Norge.
In February, we had a great time at the Valentine’s Day Fish Fry, and now we’re preparing for the Spring Tea event on March 21, 2026, at 2:00 PM. If you or your friends need a ticket, contact Kathie Godsil at 719-229-9289 to reserve a seat. Bring a neighbor along.
We are working on ways to enhance communication with our members and create more opportunities for everyone to get involved in our Lodge events. Invite your friends and fellow members to join us; we’d love to see you at our next gatherings, especially the 6:30 pm potluck Heritage Meeting held on the second Wednesday of each month. We encourage you to consider taking on any role or opportunity, no matter how small. If you haven’t heard from a board member or leader, reach out to one of us—we’re always looking for volunteers to join a committee, help with cooking, serve, or share any hidden talents. Of course, we always need help making and selling lefse or starting new fundraisers. It’s a great way to connect with other members, and it’s always a fun experience.
To improve communication with our members, we invite you to join the newly established membership committee, led by our Vice President Kerry Hefta. Our main goal is to keep members
informed about upcoming events, Heritage meetings, dinners, and to recruit new members. Once we have some volunteers, the committee will determine how often to meet and the best ways to attract new members while engaging current ones. We hope you’ll consider volunteering for the membership committee.
I’ve also been reaching out to the SON District Leadership and other lodges in Colorado to gather ideas for improving our lodge. I encourage all our members to get involved in our organization. New initiatives will soon be implemented.
I leave you with a famous quote from President Ronald Reagan: “The greatest leader is not necessarily the one who does the greatest things. He is the one that gets the people to do the greatest things.”
May peace and harmony prevail within our lodge.
~Mark Wedo – President
