July is just around the corner and that means our July break. No Flammen, no heritage meeting, and no Board meetings. Lots of us are traveling- many to Norway! Your Lodge Board members are already beginning to look ahead to the events planned for the fall.
I hope you had a Syttende Mai Celebration at your home. Eight lodge members participated in the celebration sponsored by Fjelldalen Lodge at Sterne Park in Littleton. On the menu were hot dogs wrapped in lefse that we had made- wonderful. We were at the front of the parade and the parade ended at the serving line, so we ate first this year!
At the June Heritage meeting we are planning to cook the lutefisk remaining from November. So let anyone you know that they can come for lutefisk. For non-lutefisk eaters we will also serve bratwurst lefse wraps. Of course we will also have potluck items from the members.
Prior to the July break the Lodge’s annual picnic at Bear Creek will be held on the 22nd . It is potluck but the lodge will provide soft drinks and the paper products. Hope you will be able to attend.
Our cultural program for May was an informative presentation by James on the sloop Restauration and early Norwegian migration to the United States. For the June cultural presentation, James will be providing a presentation on those Norwegians who came to the United States and then returned home. Looking forward to August, we will be having a “What I did for the summer” presentation by those who are taking the tour offered by Vesterheim.
Lefse making continues every Tuesday as we are stockpiling lefse for the Scandinavian Festival. The Scandinavian Festival is scheduled for 28-29 June at Civic Green Park, Highlands Ranch. We are still looking for volunteers to help with the lefse making demonstration, making/sharing samples of lefse and the selling lefse. Signup sheets will be at the June Heritage meeting.
In closing I hope everyone enjoys their summer and are ready for the upcoming Heritage meetings, cultural presentations, language and painting classes and events in the fall.
